- Binance Hacker Hunts for Exit Ramps as DeFi Exchanges Pause Markets
Wallets linked to Binance were drained of at least $5.5 billion, and the total is still rising. The funds were moved through the decentralized exchange Uniswap and the lending app Aave, swapping stablecoins that issuers can freeze for ETH, which has no issuer able to freeze it. Stablecoin issuers have frozen more than $2 billion in USDT and USDC, and Ripple has frozen about $200 million in RLUSD, according to Binance co-CEO Yi He. Even so, about 253,000 ETH, roughly $570 million, sat in two wallets with no outgoing transfers as of 22:07 UTC. Aave froze its V3 markets on Ethereum, Kamino paused borrowing in its SOL/BTC market as a precaution, and Binance said it was investigating the security incident but had not confirmed that user funds were affected.
- JPMorgan Is Bullish on Palantir, Predicts Over 30% Rally on Strong AI Demand
JPMorgan initiated research coverage of Palantir Technologies (PLTR) with an 'overweight' rating and a 12-month price target of $262, a 33% premium to Thursday's closing price. The bank said enterprise focus is shifting toward the AI value creation that Palantir provides, and highlighted demand for 'AI sovereignty', which allows enterprises and governments to independently secure and own their AI capabilities. Palantir is scheduled to report third-quarter results after the market closes on Monday, Nov. 2, with expected revenue of $2.18 billion and earnings of $0.41 per share. PLTR slipped about 0.2% on Thursday and has gained about 5% year-to-date, while 19 of 30 analysts rate the stock 'buy' or 'strong buy', according to Fiscal.ai data.
- Tampered Ledger reported in Singapore a month before news broke: Asia Express
Singapore police say at least two cases involving tampered Ledger hardware wallets have been reported since Sept. 10, with combined losses of about 3.5 million Singapore dollars ($2.7 million). This is almost a month before the wider incident became public, though it is unclear whether the September 10 case was reported at the time, and the October 28 consumer alert described the police investigation as preliminary. On Oct. 9, Ledger issued a public alert about tampered devices found in the CryptoBilis supply chain, and almost $100 million was drained from wallets containing spyware components. On Oct. 13, Ledger asked retailers in Indonesia, Singapore, Thailand, the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia and Hong Kong to suspend sales of its devices while investigations continue.

Operating income rose 30% to $40.58bn, but net income available to common stockholders fell to $26.17bn from $34.98bn, and diluted EPS dropped to $2.12 from $2.87. Google Cloud revenue more than doubled to $30.71bn, with operating income of $11.12bn, which Alphabet attributed to enterprise AI infrastructure, enterprise AI solutions, core GCP services and TPU system sales. Google Services revenue grew 11% to $96.30bn, with Google Search & other at $63.35bn and YouTube advertising at $11.21bn. - Billionaire Bill Gates Just Issued a Blunt Warning About Artificial Intelligence
In a late-September TV interview, Bill Gates warned that unregulated AI could lead to “a billion deaths,” saying self-regulation is not enough and that even a “kill switch” might not suffice. In a recent Decoder podcast, he was more optimistic that AI could bring “true abundance,” but warned of a 20-year transition period with winners, losers and major disruption. He said AI could make jobs such as telesupport and accounting vanish, and that humanoid robots could threaten blue-collar work unless development is slowed or stopped. The article calls Gates a more authoritative voice than other AI critics, given his long experience with technological change.

Circle and Tether froze roughly $1.8 billion in funds tied to a potential hack of Binance, the largest crypto exchange by daily trading volume. Circle CEO Jeremy Allaire said more than 800 million in USD Coin was frozen, while Tether's CEO said the firm froze more than 1.5 billion of its stablecoin. Bitcoin fell more than 3% below $80,000, and Circle shares dropped about 5% in off-hours trading.
