Swiss President Guy Parmelin proposed connecting Switzerland's Crypto Valley hub with Vietnam's innovation ecosystem to cooperate on blockchain, artificial intelligence and quantum technology, during an official visit that included talks with Prime Minister Lê Minh Hưng on Oct. 17. Switzerland offered to share its strengths in finance, insurance, reinsurance, precision manufacturing and high technology, and the two countries could expand vocational training linked to business needs. Vietnam asked for Swiss help in building an international financial centre, with proposed cooperation in green finance, funds, asset management, crypto assets, carbon credits, international bonds and fintech. Both sides see the Vietnam-EFTA Free Trade Agreement (VEFTA) as an opportunity to boost trade and investment, and the prime minister called for its early entry into force and a doubling of bilateral trade. Education, science, technology and innovation were named as priorities, alongside green energy, the digital economy and climate response.
