- Microsoft Scraps UK Data Center Deal With Nscale, Telegraph Says
The Telegraph reports that Microsoft has pulled out of a planned data center deal with the British neocloud Nscale at Loughton, Essex, without giving a specific reason. The newspaper said the site has faced a series of delays, and authorities have told Nscale they don't expect a power supply there until the 2030s. Nscale's flagship site in Norway is also six months behind schedule, with only 6.4 megawatts of its intended 30-megawatt data center running. According to an IPO filing, Microsoft and Anthropic account for around 85% of Nscale's contracts, and Microsoft's withdrawal comes as Nscale prepares an IPO seeking up to $3 billion. Nscale says it remains committed to the Loughton project and its relationship with Microsoft is strong, and that the London-wide grid issue has no impact on its other contracts.
- Here's How Microsoft's $175 Billion in Capital Expenditures Is Hurting Its Business
Microsoft expects capital expenditures of $175 billion this year, mostly for data centers supporting AI, Azure and Copilot. Azure revenue rose 43% last quarter to pass a $100 billion annual run rate, and Copilot reached 30 million paid seats. However, Microsoft does not disclose Azure's operating margin. Using the 36% and 39% operating margins of Google Cloud and AWS as benchmarks, the author estimates Azure's margin is likely well below Microsoft's overall level, so faster cloud growth could weigh on group margins. The author argues Microsoft must keep spending to avoid losing ground and prefers Amazon and Alphabet, which budget $220 billion and $200 billion in capex respectively.
- Microsoft Signs 1,100 MW Power Deal With NiSource Until 2048 as AI Spending Outruns the Grid
NiSource (NI) announced a 20-year energy agreement with Microsoft starting in 2028, adding about 1,100 MW to its generation pool for an Indiana data-center campus, with Microsoft paying for all the generation and transmission needed to serve the site. That capacity is roughly what Microsoft brings online in a full quarter, while its cash capex grew from $23.9 billion in fiscal 2022 to $116 billion in fiscal 2026, almost five times as much. Much of that spending goes to short-lived CPUs and GPUs that earn nothing until power is available, and management expects the broader capex measure to grow again in fiscal 2027, starting with more than $50 billion in the September quarter. NiSource signed Alphabet and expanded its Amazon agreement in April, so three hyperscalers now have power deals with the same Indiana utility.

- Company Linked to Billionaire Pham Nhat Vuong Announces Major Good News
VEFAC (ticker VEF), a Vingroup subsidiary, posted Q3 net revenue of nearly VND 77 billion, up 67% year on year, but a gross loss of about VND 27 billion as cost of sales from its exhibition business exceeded revenue. - International Business : Global stocks nosedive as Meta dents AI optimism
Global stocks retreated as tech earnings failed to ease concerns about the AI outlook, with MSCI's All-World index set for its largest daily fall in two weeks, down 0.4 per cent. Meta beat third-quarter revenue expectations, but its plan to issue non-voting stock revived worries about its mounting capital commitments, and a New Mexico judge ordered it to pay a $25 billion penalty in a data privacy case. Brent crude rose nearly 3% to $112 a barrel, near a five-month high, after more Houthi attacks in Saudi Arabia raised supply risks. Investors moved into government bonds, pushing the US 10-year yield down to 5.05%, below France's for the first time in 13 years, while French yields have climbed above 5% amid concerns over social unrest and debt. The France-Germany 10-year spread reached 177.7 basis points, its widest since 2011, while gold fell 1.8% to $4,070 an ounce.
