  • Barrick Sinks 5.7% as Freedom Broker Cuts Gold Majors to Hold, Slashes Target to $46

Barrick Mining shares fell 5.7% after Freedom Broker downgraded the stock to Hold from Buy and cut its price target to $46 from $54. The broker also downgraded Newmont and Agnico Eagle, which fell 4.5% and 6.4%, while AngloGold Ashanti and Equinox Gold dropped even more without a downgrade. The article attributes the group-wide selloff mainly to gold, which fell about 2% to around $4,050 an ounce, its lowest since early August and well below January's record near $5,600. Analysts still expect Barrick's normalized EPS to rise from $2.42 in fiscal 2025 to $4.22 in fiscal 2027, and its forward P/E sits well below its five-year average. Barrick's third-quarter report on Nov. 9 is the next test.

  • Guggenheim lifts Meta target as Muse usage builds

Guggenheim raised its Meta price target to $850 from $700, citing higher 2027 estimates and early traction for the Muse AI agent. According to Apptopia, Muse reached 1.3 million daily active users after five weeks, but that is still less than 0.05% of Meta's 3.6 billion daily users. Analyst Michael Morris says Muse usage and engagement are the main swing factor for sentiment ahead of the third-quarter call, and expects management to prioritize scaling usage over near-term monetization. Over time, he expects Muse to earn mainly from businesses paying to reach consumers through agents. Guggenheim also raised its 2027 capex forecast to $225 billion from $203 billion and included a $10 billion legal charge tied to the August child-safety settlement.

  • How Microsoft, Coca-Cola And Amazon Are Adapting Their Offices For AI Age

Workplace and real estate executives at Microsoft, Citadel, Amazon and Coca-Cola said AI is pushing companies to move offices away from isolated desks toward open, collaborative spaces. Coca-Cola uses AI for internal data and ad creation, Microsoft's workplace team uses it to render proposed workspaces, and Amazon's real estate team said its AI usage rose from roughly 7% in January to over 90% this month. An October Workday report, based on a survey of more than 6,000 employees and business leaders worldwide, found 40% expect AI to boost productivity while 28% expect it to reduce headcount. Microsoft is offering voluntary buyouts to about 60,000 employees, more than a quarter of its global workforce, on top of the 4,800 layoffs announced in July, while Amazon cut 14,000 corporate jobs last year and plans to cut as many as 30,000 more. Citadel has not cut jobs because of AI and is building two headquarters towers in Miami and New York totaling 3.5M SF.

  • NVDA Stock Edges Down On DOJ Interest In $12.9 Billion Hugging Face Acquisition

Nvidia shares slipped 1% on Wednesday after reports that the U.S. Department of Justice asked how its planned acquisition of Hugging Face could affect AI competition, including whether Nvidia could control a key distribution point for AI models and tools. The questions add to a years-long antitrust probe of Nvidia that began under former President Joe Biden and reportedly covers its acquisitions, investments, sales practices and whether it has pressured customers, with past deals such as SchedMD, Groq's licensing deal and Run.ai also examined. Nvidia announced in early September that it agreed to buy Hugging Face for about $12.93 billion, including roughly $11.9 billion payable to investors and an equity-based retention program of up to about $1 billion for employees. Jensen Huang has pledged that the platform will remain open to models, frameworks, clouds and computing platforms across the industry, and that Nvidia's chips will not be required to use it. The deal is expected to close in the first half of 2027.

Microsoft, by contrast, rose as much as 6.4% after hours on stronger cloud performance, with revenue up 19% to $92.3bn and Azure sales up 48%.
