Amkor Technology shares rose 8% on Wednesday after Nvidia said it plans to significantly expand its advanced packaging partnership with Amkor into South Korea, aiming for a more than 300% increase in interposer wafer capacity by the end of 2028. The initiative is part of Nvidia's wider effort to scale manufacturing across several supply chain partners to meet surging AI infrastructure demand. Other planned steps include a 2.5-fold increase in Nvidia's substrate capacity over three years, a $1.1 billion capacity reservation advance to KYEC for new U.S. testing facilities, and a 15-fold expansion of SPIL's Taiwanese optical engine capacity by mid-2027. The collaboration also involves IBIDEN, Samsung Electro-Mechanics and Unimicron.
