  • Cotton Futures End The Week In Mixed Territory As Export Sales Slip

Cotton futures traded mixed through the week, with contracts ranging from 19 points lower to 24 points higher, and the December contract down 54 points for the week. Crude oil rose $3.87 per barrel while the US dollar index fell $0.255, a combination that typically supports export-oriented commodities. Weekly Commitments of Traders data showed managed money adding 1,862 contracts to its net long position, bringing the total to 65,699 contracts as of October 13. Physical markets were weaker: USDA export sales for the week ending October 8 fell 11.12% to 146,892 running bales, led by Costa Rica at 74,300, and shipments dropped 13.11% to 140,561 running bales, though still up 0.94% year on year. The Cotlook A index was raised 20 points to 91.45 cents per pound.
