Amazon sets up $80 billion supplier financing for AI hardware

In a quarterly filing released Thursday, Amazon said it set up supplier financing arrangements allowing it to borrow up to $80 billion against hardware purchases, available from early 2027 through the third quarter of 2028. Lenders would receive collateral rights over certain assets, though the filing did not specify which ones. Amazon had mostly funded data center and chip spending from cloud and retail cash flow and its largest corporate bond sales to date, and had not previously used the joint financing or chip-leasing structures used by competitors. Third-quarter capital spending rose more than expected, producing a free cash outflow of $42.4 billion for the year ended Sept. 30. Total spending commitments reached $883 billion at the end of September, up 36% from three months earlier and more than double the year-earlier figure, and shares fell about 2% at midday Friday in New York.

  • Big Tech Capex Scorecard: Amazon Spends Over $77B In One Quarter — How It Stacks Up With MSFT, TSLA, GOOGL

Amazon's capex hit $77.3 billion last quarter, up 43% sequentially and $20 billion above LSEG-Reuters analyst expectations, pushing its stock lower. The quarter also saw a $7.6 billion cash burn, and Amazon forecasts $220 billion in capex this year. Tech and AI infrastructure stocks have fallen sharply over the past month, with SOXX down 9.6% and QQQ down 3.3%. CEO Andy Jassy said 2027 capex would be “meaningfully more” than this year, citing strong AWS demand and a “clear line of sight to attractive financial returns”; AWS sales rose 39% to $46 billion.

  • AI debt fears ease ahead of Oracle, Alphabet and Amazon updates. Here's what to watch.

Fears over AI-related debt have eased after a period of volatility, but more tests are coming, including Oracle's Investor Day and quarterly results from Alphabet and Amazon scheduled for Wednesday and Thursday. Meta's plan for a $95 billion stock offering helped bring down its credit-default swap spreads, which had risen after negative free cash flow in the third quarter, though Meta's CDS spread is still up 177% year to date and Amazon's is up 129%. According to FactSet consensus, Alphabet is expected to report third-quarter free cash flow of -$2.3 billion on $55.2 billion of capex, and Amazon -$9.9 billion on $58.7 billion, with analysts focused on capex guidance. Oracle has issued $117 billion in long-term debt and holds a BBB-1 rating from S&P, which CreditSights calls the most important investment-grade tech credit. S&P also noted that off-balance sheet commitments, such as data center leases and chip purchase obligations, are not necessarily treated as debt.

  • Amazon Gets Warrant to Buy $521.4 Million of 3M Stock in Expanded Data Center Partnership: MMM Rises Over 5% After Hours

Amazon expanded its data center partnership with 3M and received a warrant to buy about $521.4 million of 3M stock. 85% of the warrant shares vest based on Amazon's payments for optical connectivity and other data center products, with full vesting once cumulative payments reach $6 billion. 3M issued the warrant to an Amazon subsidiary for up to 3.16 million shares at $164.89 each, exercisable over seven years. Apollo Global Management estimates U.S. hyperscalers could spend $916 billion on capital expenditures over the next 12 months. In after-hours trading, 3M rose 5.43% to $170.80 after closing 1.66% lower at $162.01, while Amazon closed 4.98% higher at $262.45.

  • 3 Cloud Leaders That Will Make a Fortune From AI

The author favors Amazon (AMZN), Alphabet (GOOG, GOOGL) and neocloud provider Nebius (NBIS) as beneficiaries of surging AI computing demand. Amazon and Alphabet each plan to spend at least $200 billion on data center capital expenditures this year, with AWS growth accelerating to 37% and Google Cloud to 82%; their backlogs reached $496 billion and $514 billion, respectively, at the end of the second quarter. Nebius, which is much smaller and not yet profitable, reported 454% year-over-year revenue growth in Q2, and analysts expect 519% and 540% growth in Q3 and Q4, plus another 268% increase in 2027. The author sees large upside for Nebius but says its success depends on reaching profitability before the demand wave ends.

  • The Gold-Silver Ratio Just Hit 80. Here's What History Says Happens Next.

The gold-silver ratio, the number of silver ounces needed to buy one ounce of gold, has reached 80 with gold at $3,919 and silver at $49 per ounce. The 80-50 rule of thumb calls 50–80 neutral, but its results have been mixed: the ratio fell to 46 on Jan. 29, 2026, its lowest since 2011, and silver bought at $49 last October would have more than doubled, beating gold's roughly 40% gain, though investors who later switched back to gold lost ground. The article notes that silver's dual role as a precious and industrial metal, with about 74% of output a byproduct of other mining, leaves it exposed to rising rates, the Iran war and inflation. It cites a silver deficit forecast to widen from 40.3 million ounces in 2025 to 46.3 million ounces in 2026. Even with silver cheaper on this measure, the author says the ratio does not necessarily signal the best time to invest.

  • Nvidia’s GPU Rents Surge as Anthropic’s Revenue Has “Gone Vertical,” Says Gavin Baker

Anthropic's S-1, filed Monday, shows $2.08 of revenue per dollar of compute, up from $0.40 a year earlier, according to an analysis Gavin Baker endorsed. Baker argues that cheaper tokens raise total compute spending, which supports demand and pricing for Nvidia's GPUs; Social Capital puts H100 rental prices up 45% since December. Anthropic posted GAAP operating income of $974 million in the second quarter, and Nvidia has invested $10 billion in the lab. Analysts expect Nvidia's revenue to grow from $215.9 billion in fiscal 2026 to $692 billion in fiscal 2028, though gross margin is expected to dip to 71% to 72% in the January 2027 quarter as memory costs rise. The stock trades at 18x forward earnings versus a three-year average of 30x, ahead of its Nov. 17 report.

  • Alphabet's October wipeout hits $766 billion, its worst month ever

Alphabet (GOOGL) lost $477 billion in market value for the week through Friday's low, its worst week ever, after shares plunged $475 billion in one session on Thursday following third-quarter results. For October, the stock had shed about $766 billion at its low, second only to SpaceX's roughly $822 billion loss in July, and was down nearly 19% for the month, its steepest monthly drop since the 2004 IPO. Other megacaps also fell sharply, with Intel sliding as much as 30% after a weak outlook and Amazon losing about $70 billion for the week, while Eli Lilly, Tesla and SK Hynix added about $370 billion combined. UBS's chief investment office argued that retreating from markets does not protect portfolios and that investors should build resilient portfolios with exposure beyond tech. Alphabet closing at or below $280.50 on Friday would lock in its worst month since the IPO in percentage terms.

  • Broadcom Stock Outlook Hinges On AI Chip Growth And Anthropic Partnership

Broadcom reported sharp growth in AI semiconductor revenue and expanded custom accelerator work with Anthropic and Meta, while its TrueSource Spring Enterprise release shipped 89 security fixes. The article says the outlook hinges on AI chip growth offsetting margin pressure, with Q4 2026 gross margin guided to 73% from 77.1% in Q2 2026 and about US$29b of potential exposure from AI XPV residual value guarantees. Analyst models assume revenue growth of about 52.7% a year and earnings rising from US$38.3b today to a consensus US$155.8b by 2029, implying a P/E of 23.0x versus 44.3x now. The consensus price target of US$531.85 sits above the current US$355.10 share price, though individual targets range from US$215.88 to US$715.00.
