EVN and Power Project Management Board No. 2 have broken ground on the Quang Trach II LNG power plant in Quang Tri, with two units of nearly 1,613 MW and total investment above VND 40,100 billion, funded 20% by equity and 80% by commercial loans. Unit 1 is expected to start commercial operation in February 2030 and unit 2 two months later, adding about 9.5 billion kWh a year to the national grid. Deputy General Director Nguyen Tai Anh said contractor selection for the EPC package is complete, with a joint venture of China Power Construction Group and Vietnam Machinery Installation Corporation. Quang Tri provincial chairman Bui Hoang Phuong expects the project to spur infrastructure, supporting industries, jobs and budget revenue. The Quang Trach Power Center will total about 4,500 MW, and under the revised Power Development Plan VIII, LNG capacity is projected to reach about 22,524 MW by 2030.
