- From Lạch Huyện to the World: Hải Phòng Port Climbs in Global Top 100 Rankings, Handling 8.3 Million TEU
In Lloyd's List's 2026 Top 100 container ports ranking, Hai Phong port rose three places from 29th to 26th, Ho Chi Minh City held 22nd, and Cai Mep dropped from 30th to 31st. The Hai Phong port cluster handled 8,323,043 TEU in 2025, up 16.4%, after four new deep-water berths at Lach Huyen (total investment of more than VND 15,900 billion) entered operation, bringing the total to 6 berths. Three Vietnamese port clusters combined handled about 24.8 million TEU, accounting for 3.1% of the Top 100's 792.2 million TEU. The article argues that to enter the Top 100, ports must also meet green and smart technology standards, such as hybrid RTG cranes at Cat Lai that save 60–64% in fuel. Berths 3–6 at Lach Huyen use shore cranes and yard cranes that run entirely on electricity.
