- Bitcoin weakens to $80k as hawkish Fed, mixed tech earnings weigh
Bitcoin fell 0.9% to $80,133.1 on Thursday, erasing a brief rebound from the previous session, after the Fed held rates at 4.0% but reinforced bets on further hikes. Two of the 12 board members called for a 25 basis point increase, while Chair Kevin Warsh gave no clear forward guidance, highlighting the resilience of the U.S. economy and reiterating the 2% inflation target. CME FedWatch showed a 79.8% chance of a 25 bps hike in December, up from 73.4% a week earlier, while the 10-year Treasury yield moved back above 5%. Mixed earnings from Alphabet and Samsung also weighed on risk sentiment and pushed altcoins lower: Ether fell 1.5% to $2,316.64, XRP dropped 2.2%, while BNB gained 1.3%.
- Bitcoin price bounce rejected at 50-day trend line ahead of FOMC, earnings
Bitcoin fell about 0.3% on Wednesday after failing to hold above $81,687 and stalling below its 50-day simple moving average at $81,831, dipping as low as $80,297 on Bitstamp. Markets awaited the Federal Reserve’s decision under Chair Kevin Warsh, with CME FedWatch showing 90.6% odds of a pause within the current 3.75-4% range. U.S. stocks traded flat while South Korea’s KOSPI jumped 6.6%. Glassnode said bid liquidity below $80,000 is thin at about $3.4M, while the $78,000-$79,000 zone holds roughly $42M in orders, up from $24M in mid-October. Analyst Keith Alan said a 4-hour close below $80,565 would reduce the chance of retesting the 50-day SMA.
- Live updates: Bitcoin climbs above $81,000 as majors rally ahead of Fed decision
Bitcoin rose 2% to just above $81,000 on Wednesday Asian morning, recovering from Monday's dip below $80,000 as traders positioned for the Federal Reserve's rate decision. Most major tokens also gained: HYPE jumped nearly 6% to just above $81, ZEC added 5% to about $1,300, DOGE rose 4%, and BNB and SOL each gained about 3%. Ether climbed 2% to about $2,360, XRP rose 3% to $1.32, and TRX gained about 1%. The bounce follows a Galaxy note saying now is the time to accumulate bitcoin, with its head of firmwide research, Alex Thorn, saying the bear market likely ended in June, when bitcoin traded under $58,000. The bigger test comes when Fed Chair Kevin Warsh holds his press conference, as traders look for any hint of a December rate hike that would make borrowing costlier and tends to pull money from riskier assets like crypto.
- Bitcoin price eyes $82K as Morgan Stanley strategist says most of correction is over
Bitcoin approached $82,000 on Wednesday, extending its rebound as bid liquidity built up around $79,000 and $80,000, while South Korea's KOSPI rose 6.6%. Morgan Stanley's Mike Wilson said most of the tech stock correction is already over, and CME Group's FedWatch showed 90.6% odds that the Fed would keep rates in the 3.75-4% range. Crypto analyst Rekt Capital said Bitcoin's weekly chart resembles the 2022 structure, with resistance near $82,000 still unbroken and the pair yet to discard a $60,000-$80,000 accumulation range.
- Bitcoin nears $81,000 ahead of Fed decision as ZEC jumps 8%
Bitcoin rose nearly 2% to just under $81,000 in Wednesday's Asian morning session, recovering from a weekend dip to nearly $79,000 as traders awaited the Federal Reserve's rate decision. Among major cryptocurrencies, ZEC led with an 8% jump to about $1,320, HYPE gained nearly 5%, and XRP and DOGE rose roughly 3%. Galaxy said Bitcoin's bear market likely ended in June, when it traded below $58,000, and that the asset is now in an accumulation phase, citing its return above the 50-week moving average, lighter selling pressure and rising U.S. debt. Traders will watch Fed Chair Kevin Warsh's press conference for hints of a December rate hike, while a daily close above $82,500 could signal the recovery is gaining momentum.
- Bitcoin drops below $80,000 as crypto ignores Asian tech rally, Fed meeting begins

Asian tech stocks rallied, with South Korea's Kospi up 3.1%, but crypto did not follow and the DeFi index dropped 1.8%. The Fed begins a two-day meeting with a rate decision due Wednesday, and CME's FedWatch tool shows around a 90% chance of no change. Across crypto futures, volume rose 18% to $152 billion over 24 hours, while U.S. spot bitcoin ETFs took in $110 million on Monday.

- Monetary policy decisions
The ECB Governing Council decided to keep its three key interest rates unchanged: 2.50% on the deposit facility, 2.65% on main refinancing operations and 2.90% on the marginal lending facility. Energy prices have kept rising, posing upside risks to inflation and downside risks to growth, while underlying inflation has been broadly stable and wages show no material response yet. Financing conditions have tightened since the last meeting, which is likely to weigh on inflation and growth. The Council aims for inflation to stabilise at its 2% target in the medium term, is not pre-committing to a rate path, and stands ready to adjust all its instruments within its mandate.
- Microsoft's capex proves it can continue to grow while spending big on AI
Microsoft beat expectations on both revenue and earnings, with its agents and infrastructure revenue unit and its devices-to-consumer division both performing well. Capital expenditure came in at 39.4, below Street expectations, and fiscal 2027 capex guidance is 170, mostly driven by CPU and GPU costs, while the company stays cash flow positive. The commentators argue Microsoft shows that heavy AI spending can still deliver growth if the spending is monetised well, helped by its diversification into enterprise business. They also noted OpenAI paid Microsoft 10 billion in the quarter, including revenue-share payments, about 11% of Microsoft's revenue and more than Xbox and Windows combined.
- Google's Woes: Parent Alphabet Faces Its Worst Drop on Record
Alphabet shares fell about 11% pre-market as investors worried that its negative free cash flow was deeper than expected and that its AI spending plans are large, while Microsoft rose after its capex came in below forecasts. In the third quarter, Microsoft booked 45.2 billion USD in capex and finance leases, up 30% but below the 50.67 billion USD analysts expected; its free cash flow fell 27% to 18.63 billion USD but stayed positive. Alphabet posted negative free cash flow of 9.07 billion USD, worse than the negative 2.7 billion USD analysts expected, even as search advertising revenue rose 12% to 63.35 billion USD but fell short of expectations. Ben Barringer of Quilter Cheviot said Google faces a dilemma between protecting its core business and innovating amid pressure from AI chatbots, and that Gemini has lost part of its competitive edge.
- Alphabet Sinks 11% as AI Spending Pushes Cash Flow Negative Again; Microsoft and Meta Edge Higher, Amazon Slips
Alphabet shares fell about 11% in early trading after its Q3 2026 revenue reached 127.58 billion USD, up 25%, but EPS of 2.12 USD missed estimates, mainly due to an 8.7 billion USD loss on its equity investments. Capital spending rose to 51.3 billion USD, pushing free cash flow to negative 9.1 billion USD, its second straight negative quarter; to fund the buildout, Alphabet issued 28.7 billion USD in senior unsecured debt and raised 12.4 billion USD through at-the-market stock sales. Google Cloud revenue grew 103% to 30.71 billion USD. In contrast, Microsoft reported revenue of 92.3 billion USD, up 19%, adjusted EPS of 4.89 USD above the 4.72 USD consensus, capex of 45.2 billion USD and positive free cash flow of 18.6 billion USD. Microsoft and Meta edged higher while Amazon slipped 2%.
- Polygon Extends Its Stablecoin Payments Infrastructure to Solana
Polygon Labs is bringing its Open Money Stack, a bundle of stablecoin payment tools, to Solana for the first time, giving businesses a single connection to fund payments from bank accounts, move crypto across chains and pay out to customers and suppliers. The company says this addresses the complexity of crypto payments, where funding, conversion and bank payouts usually require several separate providers. Solana businesses can connect bank, card, cash and crypto funding routes, create embedded wallets, and route funds across Polygon, Ethereum and Tron. Cross-border payments firm Kira is among the first to adopt the stack on Solana. Per the Solana Foundation, the network has processed more than $5 trillion in stablecoin volume this year, and the expansion extends Polygon's broader payments push, including its acquisition of Coinme.
- Justin Sun's HTX Agrees to Leave UK in Settlement With Financial Watchdog
The FCA has settled its High Court case against HTX, with the exchange undertaking not to target or solicit UK consumers, and Huobi Global S.A. agreeing not to communicate financial promotions in breach of UK law across HTX's website, apps and social media. HTX has stopped UK deposits and new sign-ups, and existing UK users have 48 hours to withdraw assets before their accounts are closed. The settlement terms are confidential and do not amount to an admission of liability or wrongdoing. The case, begun in October 2025, was the FCA's first against a crypto firm under UK financial promotion rules. Separately, the UK sanctioned Huobi Global S.A. in May over alleged support for Russia's financial sector, and the EU later named it in its 21st Russia sanctions package.
