President Donald Trump is promoting $5,000 checks as a way to boost Republican turnout in the November 3 midterm elections, but some of his own supporters doubt the payments will arrive. Trump says the payouts would occur only if Republicans keep their majorities in the House and Senate, and acknowledges the cost would exceed $1 trillion. Earlier promises, such as $2,000 in tariff-revenue dividends and refunds from DOGE spending cuts, never materialized, and a September AP-NORC poll found about half of registered voters say Trump does not keep his promises. AdImpact data show Republicans are not running ads on the promise, while the White House says the payments would be funded by trade deals, foreign investment, government stakes in companies, and oil and mineral deals. Asked whether the administration had modeled the economic impact, White House Council of Economic Advisers chairman Christopher Phelan declined to answer.

President Donald Trump hopes $5,000 checks will boost Republican turnout in the November 3 midterm elections, but some of his supporters doubt the payments will arrive. He previously promised $2,000 tariff dividends and refunds from Department of Government Efficiency spending cuts, and neither materialized. Trump says the $5,000 payments would only be made if Republicans keep their House and Senate majorities, and he acknowledges the cost would exceed $1 trillion. The White House says the payments are feasible through trade deals and foreign investment commitments, while critics say his economic policies have pushed prices higher. An AP-NORC poll from September found that roughly half of registered voters say Trump does not keep his promises.

  • Gimmick or giveback ? Even some Trump supporters dont expect to get $5 , 000 checks after midterms

President Donald Trump says people will each receive $5,000 if Republicans keep their majorities in Congress after the midterm elections, a pledge aimed at boosting GOP turnout. Some of his supporters are doubtful, since earlier promises of $2,000 tariff dividends and refunds from spending cuts never materialized. Trump acknowledges the cost would exceed $1 trillion, and the White House says the payments could be funded by trade deals and foreign investment, though it is unclear whether officials have seriously weighed the effects on the deficit and inflation. Roughly half of registered voters in an AP-NORC poll say Trump does not keep his promises, and Republican candidates are largely not advertising the pledge.

Trump says the payouts would only happen if Republicans keep majorities in both the House and Senate, and he acknowledges the cost would exceed $1 trillion. The White House says the money would come from trade deals, foreign investment commitments, government stakes in companies and oil and mineral deals, but it is unclear whether it has modeled the effects on deficits and inflation. SPDR Gold Trust, the world's largest gold fund, continued net selling of nearly 12 tonnes of gold in the 22/10 session, bringing total sales over 2 sessions to nearly 15 tonnes and cutting its holdings to about 1,046 tonnes. Spot gold fell more than 2.8% to around USD 4,025 per ounce at the close of 22/10, and briefly dipped below USD 4,000 per ounce in the morning session of 23/10. Markets price about an 84% chance the Fed holds rates steady at its 27-28/10 meeting and a 16% chance of a 25 basis-point increase; September PCE data due on 29/10 is the next key factor to watch.
