- Asia FX muted, yuan at 4-yr high; dollar drifts lower ahead of c.bank-packed week
Most Asian currencies moved little on Monday as the dollar drifted lower ahead of a week packed with central bank meetings, most notably the Federal Reserve. The dollar index fell 0.17% in Asian trade after hitting an 18-month high earlier in October. The Fed is widely expected to hold rates at 4.0% on Wednesday, after raising them by 25 basis points in September, its first hike in over three years, as U.S. inflation stays well above its 2% target. Traders will watch comments from Fed Chair Kevin Warsh, along with U.S. third-quarter GDP and September PCE data. The yen was muted before a Bank of Japan meeting, where rates are expected to stay at 1.25% but with a hawkish outlook, while the yuan rose to a four-year high with support from the People's Bank.

- U . S . Dollar Falls On Fading Fed Rate Hike Hopes
The U.S. dollar weakened against major currencies in the European session as expectations of a Federal Reserve rate hike declined and worries over AI overinvestment weighed. Investors are coming to terms with the Fed standing pat on rates at next week's policy meeting. Odds of a quarter-point hike fell to 17% from nearly 60% last week, according to CME's FedWatch Tool, after some Fed officials said they need more time to assess the impact of September's hike.
- Dollar Weakens on Reduced Fed Rate Hike Chances This Month
The dollar index (DXY00) fell to a 2-week low and finished down 0.19% on Friday. The dollar came under pressure after Fed Chair Powell gave no guidance on monetary policy or the economy in a speech at the annual IMF meeting in Bangkok.
- JSE jumps and rand strengthens
The Johannesburg Stock Exchange rose by more than one and a half percent on Thursday, and the rand strengthened. The rand had weakened the previous day on expectations that the US Federal Reserve could raise interest rates sooner rather than later. Higher US rates usually strengthen the dollar and weaken the rand, but that pattern completely reversed on Thursday.
- Sterling today: Pound slips as dollar holds firm ahead of Fed decision
Sterling fell 0.22% against the dollar to $1.3348, while the euro rose 0.09% to $1.1213, as investors positioned ahead of a busy week of central bank meetings and the Fed decision on Wednesday. ING's Chris Turner said the dollar can probably hold its gains, citing elevated energy prices and the arrival of a third US aircraft carrier group in the Gulf. Markets and economists expect the Fed to hold rates, while ING forecasts a 25 basis point hike in December. Turner expects the DXY to trade between 101.45 and 101.85 today and sees EUR/USD capped near 1.1250/70, while calling the 1.1180 support level vulnerable this week.

- Bitcoin Dips Below $80,000 Ahead of Fed Decision, Midterms
Bitcoin briefly fell below $80,000, touching about $79,330 before recovering to $80,264, down 2.7% on the week according to CoinGecko. The dip followed a sell-off in tech stocks and caution ahead of the Fed's rate decision, with U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs seeing $773 million in net outflows on Thursday and Friday. Daniela Hathorn of Capital.com linked the pressure to persistent inflation, high Treasury yields and expectations of further Fed tightening, while Tim Sun of HashKey said outflows and unwinding leveraged positions amplified the decline. Tim Sun sees $75,000 as a key support level if prices fall further, while Stephen Wundke of Algoz says Bitcoin needs to hold $82,000 to support the bull case. Analysts expect volatility to stay elevated ahead of Wednesday's Fed decision and the U.S. midterm elections on November 3.
- Bitcoin's Bear Market Is Over, Galaxy Research Says: 'Now Is an Attractive Time to Buy'
Galaxy's Alex Thorn argues Bitcoin bottomed in June and is now in an accumulation phase, calling it 'an attractive time to buy and hold bitcoin.' Bitcoin has closed five straight weeks above its 50-week average, and its market value never fell below its realized value, a first for any bear market. The latest 53% drawdown was the shallowest on record, versus 77% to 93% in past cycles, and spot Bitcoin ETFs have added 87,000 BTC since the June low. Thorn also points to $40.44 trillion in federal debt and a 10-year Treasury yield that hit 5.31%, its highest since 2007. His warning sign is a weekly close below the 50-week average, currently $76,540, that isn't regained within a month.
- Meta is raising even more cash to fund the AI build-out — as much as $95B
Meta plans to raise as much as $95 billion to keep funding its AI build-out, through several stock sales. The plan includes $35 billion of common and preferred stock and up to $60 billion through an at-the-market share sale program. Nvidia, AMD and Broadcom have together committed to buy $5 billion of the common shares. Shares, which had been trading higher, slipped in pre-market trading, and the hosts noted the spending is already baked into estimates. Investors are questioning when the heavy spending will pay off, with some reports saying Meta's models are not keeping up with rivals.

- Semperis Deepens Microsoft Security Collaboration, Integrating the Lightning Platform with Microsoft Sentinel and Security Copilot
Semperis announced on October 26, 2026 a deeper collaboration with Microsoft, as its Lightning Platform integrates with Microsoft Sentinel and Security Copilot. The integration uses Microsoft-native components such as Azure Functions, Log Analytics tables, KQL and MCP to bring identity context, including attack paths, Tier 0 exposure, posture indicators and hybrid identity telemetry, into Sentinel. Security teams can therefore query and act on identity risk without leaving the Microsoft environment. Semperis has also built custom Security Copilot agents that use KQL over Lightning tables to return risk and posture summaries and identify exposed paths, and these agents can be published on the Microsoft Security Store. The collaboration builds on Semperis' membership in the Microsoft Intelligent Security Association and its designation as a Microsoft Certified Security Software vendor. CEO Mickey Bresman said security teams need identity context within the tools they already use.
- Lode Gold Initiates Exploration to Evaluate Upside Potential at Historic High-Grade Mines Within Fremont Gold Mine
Lode Gold Resources (TSXV: LOD) announced on October 26, 2026 that it is starting exploration to assess additional gold potential at its 100%-owned Fremont Gold Mine in Mariposa County, California. The historic mine has seven deposits, four former mines, about 23 kilometres of underground workings and 43,000 metres of historical drilling, but its 2026 resource estimate covers only three of the deposits. The company is expanding its evaluation to all seven deposits and nine additional targets, starting with French Mine, a historical site about two kilometres by truck from Pine Tree-Josephine that reported gold grades of 10.7 g/t Au. Fieldwork and a review of historical records are underway to build a three-dimensional geological model, and CEO Wendy T. Chan said the company believes there could be significant upside at the previously producing mines. Any potential mining development remains subject to further geological, technical and economic assessments.
