  • Pain for shareholders of FPT, Masan Consumer, SSI: Tens of thousands of billions of VND in market cap 'evaporate' since the start of the year

The 20 companies with the steepest market-cap declines on Vietnam's stock market lost a combined 622,748 billion VND between Dec. 31, 2025 and the start of trading on Nov. 3, 2026. FPT led with a 68,532 billion VND drop (42%), followed by Masan Consumer (down 62,473 billion VND, or 26.4%) and GELEX Electric (down 49,373 billion VND, or 54.9%). PNJ posted the steepest percentage decline at 75.9% (25,102 billion VND), while seven banks in the Top 20 accounted for about 184,377 billion VND. The article notes that market-cap changes reflect both share prices and changes in shares outstanding, so the decline does not equal cash actually withdrawn from the market.

  • Foreign investors dump nearly $1 billion of Vietnamese stocks in October in 20 straight net-selling sessions

Foreign investors net sold more than VND 24,000 billion (nearly US$1 billion) on HoSE in October 2026, nearly five times September's VND 4,844 billion and the heaviest monthly net selling in 13 months. Over 22 sessions, they were net sellers on 20 days, extending a run of 20 straight net-selling sessions from September 23 to October 20. Selling pressure centred on Masan Consumer (MCH), with about VND 9,602 billion net sold, mainly from a negotiated transfer of more than 64.2 million shares on October 9; excluding MCH, net selling was still about VND 14,400 billion. Year to date through October, foreign investors had net sold nearly VND 122,000 billion on HoSE, close to the record VND 125,000 billion set in all of 2025. The article attributes the trend to global capital favouring markets with more attractive earnings growth stories, high international bond yields and fund rebalancing, as well as a mismatch between passive funds buying ahead of an upgrade and active funds realising gains.

  • Why Do Many Brokerages Rate Masan Consumer Positively?

Vietcap, Mirae Asset, Yuanta and TCBS all view Masan Consumer's (HOSE: MCH) business platform positively, citing brand strength, distribution network, and profit and cash flow generation. According to TCBS, five of the company's brands each generate over USD 100 million in annual revenue, contributing about 70% of revenue and 80% of gross profit. Mirae Asset says active outlets rose from about 230,000 to 550,000 in Q2 2026, while Yuanta reports traditional-channel revenue up 10.6%. In H1 2026, revenue reached VND 15,637 billion (up 13.6%) and net profit after tax about VND 3,284 billion (up 10.9%), and Vietcap forecasts full-year 2026 revenue of about VND 34,593 billion. From 2017 to 2025, the company paid about VND 46,000 billion in cash dividends, and the key challenge is funding new products while maintaining payouts.
