- Bitcoin miners' move into AI is creating a new market for trading computing power
Luxor Technology, best known for bitcoin mining services, raised $16 million in a round led by CMT Digital, with Canaan and MicroBT also investing. The funds will go to its AI hardware brokerage and computing-power trading business as bitcoin miners increasingly move into AI. According to CoinShares, publicly traded bitcoin miners had signed more than $70 billion in AI and high-performance computing contracts by the end of March. Luxor found that most mining sites it assessed had adequate electricity and fiber connections for AI workloads but would need new data centers. The company is also expanding into contracts that let buyers and sellers agree on future computing prices, and in August it launched a price index tracking daily asking prices for Nvidia AI server systems.
- CryptoQuant CEO Calls Rising Bitcoin Hashrate ‘Indirect Bullish Signal’ from Institutions
CryptoQuant CEO Ki Young Ju says rising Bitcoin hashrate is an ‘indirect bullish signal’ from institutions, since most public miners are backed by traditional finance firms. Hashrate has recovered about 45% from its July low of 726 EH/s to roughly 1,050 EH/s on Wednesday, but remains below the October 2025 peak of 1,305 EH/s, when BTC traded above $111,000; it was last near $81,843. NIP Group (NIPG) agreed to buy about 4.47 EH/s of deployed mining hardware in a third tranche, expected to bring total hashrate across three tranches to 13.85 EH/s, versus 3.11 EH/s currently operating. NIPG shares fell 6.8% to $6.10 and are down 86% over the past year, while TeraWulf, Core Scientific, Cipher Mining and IREN each dropped about 12% after higher-than-expected inflation data.

- Strategy Gains 7% as Bitcoin Rallies After Midterms, CEO Touts “Bitcoin Capital Cycle”
Strategy (MSTR) shares rose 7% today as Bitcoin and the broader market rallied after the midterm elections, while BitMine (BMNR) rose 8%. Bitcoin was up about 3.5% by midday, so Strategy's move was roughly twice as big, and its bitcoin was worth 1.6x its common book value at end-June. The company holds 849,327 bitcoin at an average cost of $75,451 a coin, and even today's rally only takes Bitcoin to around $80,500, leaving a thin cushion. Strategy raised about $21 billion from share sales this year, and CEO Phong Le put its multiple at 1.15x against management's 1.22x break-even. The author says leverage is working for shareholders today but wants the premium restored before calling the cycle healthy, and notes that MSCI's index decision on dropped companies is next.

- What Cirrus Logic (CRUS) Said on Its Q2 Earnings Call
Cirrus Logic reported fiscal second-quarter revenue of $559.5 million, up 22% from the prior quarter, as higher smartphone volumes and more content per device offset weaker PC and general-market sales. It forecasts December-quarter revenue of $510 million to $570 million, partly because some sales shifted into September, and expects gross margin of 51%–53% for the foreseeable future after calling September its high point. The company plans targeted price increases and expects fiscal 2027 operating expenses to rise as it invests in R&D. PC demand is weighed by memory and component shortages and delayed launches, though existing design wins remain in place. Cirrus also completed its INVENTVM acquisition and authorized up to $500 million in additional share repurchases.
- The Deal With Meta & OpenAI Just Cost AMD $1.1 Billion
AMD booked a $1.1 billion noncash charge in the third quarter tied to its chip deals with OpenAI and Meta, the first time these agreements hit its reported earnings. The charge equals 66 cents per diluted share and mainly reflects a higher share price and revised estimates of whether customers will meet milestones, as AMD began shipping Instinct MI450 accelerators. Each customer holds a warrant to buy up to 160 million shares at 1 cent apiece, which would give them about 16% of AMD's enlarged share count if fully exercised. Revenue reached $13.4 billion, and the data center segment hit a record $8.5 billion, up 97% from a year earlier. Free cash flow fell to $554 million from $1.56 billion as inventory rose about $3 billion to roughly $11.5 billion.
- Why Alphabet Stock Popped on Wednesday
Alphabet shares rose as much as 5.9% on Wednesday and closed up 3.2% after Democrats took control of both the House and the Senate in the U.S. midterm elections. A prominent voter issue was stricter oversight of data centers, with an estimated 50 ballot measures nationwide, many seeking moratoriums. Texas accounts for 41% of data center capacity scheduled to come online in 2028, and governor-elect Gina Hinojosa promised a moratorium until the legislature studies the facilities' effects. The article argues a moratorium would likely hurt competition and benefit hyperscalers like Google, even though the stock fell 13% in one day after its Q3 report, its largest single-day drop, on negative free cash flow of $9 billion and roughly $200 billion in planned 2026 capex, while Google Cloud revenue rose 103% to $30.7 billion.
- Steve Weiss Says the Midterms Just Put a Lid on AI Spending. Here's Who Could Get Hurt
After Democrats took control of Congress and newly elected governors pledged to limit data center development, AI infrastructure stocks fell sharply while chipmakers barely moved. Steve Weiss told CNBC the market sees the Democratic win as a forced restraint on capex, since companies could not spend what they committed under a moratorium on new data centers, especially in Texas, where 30% of projects are located. Vistra and Vertiv fell by double digits, while NVIDIA and Broadcom slipped far less, because chips can be sold to projects in other states or countries. Morgan Stanley's Ariana Salvatore argued that a Republican-controlled Texas legislature would limit sweeping changes, while GLJ Research's Gordon Johnson said the Texas result could delay 13 gigawatts of planned data center power.
- Trump committee hearing on Fed Governor Lisa Cook rescheduled to Dec. 14
A special committee appointed by President Donald Trump has rescheduled the hearing for Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook to Dec. 14, a White House official said Wednesday. Trump set up the “committee of inquiry” in early October to investigate allegations that Cook made false statements related to “one or more mortgage instruments.” The New York Times first reported the rescheduling.
