- Global financial watchdog calls for cross-border information sharing, planning for stablecoin crisis
The FSB, the G20's financial watchdog, warns that global stablecoins have not been tested under severe stress or issuer insolvency, while national rules are developing at different speeds. The stablecoin market has grown from about $206 billion at the start of 2025 to $306 billion, mostly in U.S. dollar-pegged tokens. The report flags risks in multi-issuer models, where reserves may sit in one jurisdiction while redemption demands hit another, and in 24/7 trading against market hours, which could cause a token to lose its peg. Pseudonymous transactions also make it hard to identify holders and which insolvency rules apply. The FSB calls for more cross-border information sharing, monitoring and contingency planning; its recommendations are not legally binding and come ahead of the G20 meeting on Oct. 15.
- Tether Holds 150,000 Bitcoin, CEO Says—About 50,000 More Than Its Reserve Report Shows
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said the company holds about 150,000 Bitcoin, worth roughly $11.5 billion, about 50,000 coins more than its Q3 reserve attestation implies. That attestation lists $8.37 billion of Bitcoin at $83,621 per coin, or roughly 100,060 BTC, leaving around 50,000 coins (close to $3.8 billion) not reflected in its public filings. Ardoino did not say where the extra Bitcoin is held or when it was acquired, and Tether has said its corporate Bitcoin sits separately from the reserves backing USDT. The company has accumulated Bitcoin for years and reported $1.5 billion in net operating profit in the third quarter alone. The issue touches on Tether's long-running scrutiny over USDT backing, as it began its first full financial audit with KPMG this year.
- Brazil's Biggest Bitcoin Exchange Says It Will Refund Users After a $40 Million Hack
Mercado Bitcoin, Brazil's largest crypto exchange, said a security incident on November 2 led it to suspend deposits and withdrawals, and that no customer lost money or had data leaked. The exchange says it will cover the losses itself, though it has not said how attackers got in. Loss estimates vary: the exchange cites about $38 million, Hypernative more than $40 million, Arkham at least $46 million and Chainalysis about $49 million. The exchange says it has blocked $11 million with partners including Tether and Circle, while Tether froze more than $4.5 million in USDT tied to the incident. Services remain suspended with no restart date, days after a $6 billion theft at Binance that the FBI blamed on North Korea's TraderTraitor group; Mercado Bitcoin has not linked the two.
- Tether Owns $11.5 Billion Worth Of Bitcoin
Stablecoin provider Tether reported holding 150,000 Bitcoin worth $11.50 billion at the current market price, disclosed in its latest report on reserves backing USDT. It added 1,130 tokens during the third quarter of this year. Its reserve assets totaled $191.45 billion against $183.50 billion in liabilities at the end of September, lifting excess reserves to $7.95 billion from $4.11 billion at the end of June. Tether also reported more than 730 million stablecoin users and an average of 30 million digital wallets holding USDT. The company said in 2023 it would allocate up to 15% of operating profits to Bitcoin purchases and holds the coins itself rather than through third-party custodians.

- Amazon workers in the Greater Toronto Area launch fight for better jobs with Unifor
Amazon workers across the Greater Toronto Area have launched a new organizing drive with Unifor, seeking safe jobs, fair pay and respect ahead of Black Friday. The union notes Amazon reported US$28.1 billion in operating income in Q3 2026, with an operating margin of almost 14%, its highest ever, while many associates received a wage increase of only $1/hour in 2026. Workplace Safety and Insurance Board data shows Amazon's 2025 injury rate was more than double its 2020 level, and annual injury claims have nearly tripled. Ontario holds more than half of Amazon's Canadian workforce, and workers at the YVR2 warehouse in Delta, B.C. are close to securing the first collective agreement at Amazon in North America. Unifor, Canada's largest private-sector union with 320,000 workers, says workers have a legal right to organize.

- A 'demand decade' ahead for energy? BP, Baker Hughes CEOs weigh the investment outlook
Rising energy demand is opening new investment opportunities, though geopolitical risks and uncertain oil prices are challenging the industry. Baker Hughes CEO Lorenzo Simonelli is optimistic about the long term, citing AI, population growth and developing nations, and says the industry has a 'demand decade' ahead. He expects industry activity to rise by a low-single-digit percentage in 2027 and says the Middle East conflict highlights the need for more resilient infrastructure, including storage and pipelines. RWE CEO Markus Krebber says AI and electrification are driving electricity demand, but geopolitical tensions, supply chain pressures and higher interest rates are complicating investment decisions. BP CEO Meg O'Neill stresses that wide forecast ranges for global energy demand matter for long-lived projects, while Energy Aspects expects oil markets could be oversupplied in 2027 and 2028 if Middle East flows return to normal.
