- Tether Holds 150,000 Bitcoin, CEO Says—About 50,000 More Than Its Reserve Report Shows
Tether CEO Paolo Ardoino said the company holds about 150,000 Bitcoin, worth roughly $11.5 billion, about 50,000 coins more than its Q3 reserve attestation implies. That attestation lists $8.37 billion of Bitcoin at $83,621 per coin, or roughly 100,060 BTC, leaving around 50,000 coins (close to $3.8 billion) not reflected in its public filings. Ardoino did not say where the extra Bitcoin is held or when it was acquired, and Tether has said its corporate Bitcoin sits separately from the reserves backing USDT. The company has accumulated Bitcoin for years and reported $1.5 billion in net operating profit in the third quarter alone. The issue touches on Tether's long-running scrutiny over USDT backing, as it began its first full financial audit with KPMG this year.
- Tether Owns $11.5 Billion Worth Of Bitcoin
Stablecoin provider Tether reported holding 150,000 Bitcoin worth $11.50 billion at the current market price, disclosed in its latest report on reserves backing USDT. It added 1,130 tokens during the third quarter of this year. Its reserve assets totaled $191.45 billion against $183.50 billion in liabilities at the end of September, lifting excess reserves to $7.95 billion from $4.11 billion at the end of June. Tether also reported more than 730 million stablecoin users and an average of 30 million digital wallets holding USDT. The company said in 2023 it would allocate up to 15% of operating profits to Bitcoin purchases and holds the coins itself rather than through third-party custodians.
- Private, fast USDT is coming to Bitcoin. Can it compete with Ethereum and Tron?
Utexo, a Dubai-based blockchain startup, plans to bring Tether's USDT back to Bitcoin after a three-year hiatus through the RGB protocol, which keeps transaction data off-chain. The public launch is scheduled for Nov. 28, with Lightning Network support planned for Q1 2027. USDT first ran on Bitcoin in 2014 through the Omni protocol, but Tether halted issuance in August 2023 citing declining usage, and later led Utexo's $7.5 million seed round in March. With $300 billion of stablecoin supply already on networks such as Ethereum and Tron, co-founder Viktor Ihnatiuk says the Bitcoin version's advantages are speed and privacy. Utexo Mint locks USDT0 on Arbitrum before minting an equivalent amount of USDT on Bitcoin, so its security also depends on the mechanisms connecting the two networks.
- Tether’s excess reserves nearly double to $8B as Q3 profit hits $1.5B
Tether reported $1.5 billion in third-quarter operating profit, while its excess reserves nearly doubled to $7.95 billion from $4.1 billion in June, according to an attestation prepared by BDO. At the end of September, the company held $191.5 billion in assets against $183.5 billion in liabilities, including $132.4 billion in direct and indirect US Treasury bill holdings, comparable to South Korea's $134.2 billion and above the UAE's $116.1 billion based on August US Treasury data. Net operating profit for the first nine months of 2026 reached $4.5 billion, largely from Treasury bills and reverse repurchase agreements. Its Bitcoin reserves were valued at $8.37 billion, up from about $5.8 billion at the end of June. USDT accounts for around 60% of the $297.3 billion stablecoin market according to DefiLlama, and CEO Paolo Ardoino said its user base has surpassed 700 million.
- Tether Unexpectedly Cuts Gold Holdings for the First Time in Nearly 3 Years, but Another 'Gold Vault' Swells
Tether reduced its physical gold backing USDT by about 3.4 tonnes in Q3 2026, to roughly 143 tonnes, its first decline since early 2024 after nine consecutive quarters of increases. In contrast, gold backing the XAUT token rose by about 3.73 tonnes (nearly 17%) to about 25.74 tonnes, stored as 2,090 bars with a market value above $3 billion. Even with the lower volume, the value of the USDT gold holding rose about $246 million as the valuation price climbed from $4,008.02 to $4,157.41 per ounce. In Q3, Tether reported about $1.5 billion in net operating profit, while reserves above liabilities grew to nearly $7.95 billion. In a Reuters poll of 30 analysts, the median forecast for the 2026 average gold price was cut to $4,495 per ounce, while the 2027 forecast rose to $4,650.
- Standard Chartered Predicts the Stablecoin Market Will Hit $2 Trillion by 2030. These Are the 3 Stablecoins Investors Need to Know.
Total stablecoin value was just over $299.2 billion as of Oct. 28, and Standard Chartered estimates the market will reach $2 trillion by 2030. Tether (USDT) holds 60.8% of total value, but its reserves are slightly riskier: when gold and Bitcoin fell together, its excess-reserve cushion shrank to $4.1 billion. USDC has $71.2 billion in circulation, mostly held in a money market fund, and the article says it is likely the safest stablecoin for most investors. Open USD, launched Sept. 30, has $835 million in circulation and is distributed through a syndicate in which distribution partners share reserve income.

- The S&P 500 Fell in Both September and October for Only the 17th Time Since 1950. Here's What Usually Followed.
The S&P 500 closed September at 7,651.54 and October at 7,580.07, two monthly losses of about 0.5% and 0.9% and the first such pair since 2023, yet it was still up about 11% this year. Across 16 past years since 1950 with declines in both months, the index rose over November and December in 12 and gained a median of about 3.7% over those two months, and was higher a year after October in 14, with a typical gain of about 13%. The two losing outcomes, 1989 and 2000, were followed by a recession starting in August 1990 and the dot-com bust, respectively. The CAPE valuation was around 41 at the start of October, and among the earlier years only 2000 came close, at about 39. The author says the two-month dip tells little by itself, and sees no reason in this history to stop or speed up regular index-fund investing, while keeping expectations modest given the valuation.

According to CME's FedWatch tool, traders put the probability of a Fed rate hike in December at 79%. The World Gold Council cut its 2026 investment demand growth forecast to 200 tonnes from 400 tonnes, while raising its forecast for central bank gold purchases.
